WORK FOR HAITI
A Cash For Work Programme

Hopital Albert Schweitzer, Deschapelles, Haiti
A Jobs Initiative Program for Haiti,
Funded by a U.N. OCHA Grant

Since the January 12th 2010 earthquake, Haiti’s Artibonite Valley has become home to 165,000 former residents of Port au Prince. 15,000 of these recently displaced Haitian citizens have settled in Hopital Albert Schweitzer’s (HAS) immediate service area.  In an effort to better serve the valley’s residents and adapt to its surge in population, HAS, funded by a U.N. OCHA grant, has implemented a jobs initiative program which will employ 7,300 residents of the Artibonite Valley. Those hired will address a broad range of infrastructure-related issues which HAS has identified as significant barriers to an improved quality of life for the Haitian people.
From May-August 2010, Cash For Work Programme Director, Gozde Avci, along with Edward Rawson and the Team Leaders, will hire and train residents of The Artibonite Valley, Haiti to make much-needed improvements in their communities.

The projects will focus the following 5 areas :
  • Wells and Water
  • Roads and Canals
  • Animatrice (Social Work)
  • Haiti Timber Reintegration Programme (HTRIP)
  • Youth Projects (Engaging children in organized sports and mural painting)
